LVDS and eDP are both video signal interfaces used to transfer signal from POS motherboard to LCD screen. The interface type depends on LCD manufacture’s design. Main display of Sunany 15inch and 17.3inch POS system support a LVDS interface, 15.6inch POS system supports an eDP interface.
Low-voltage differential signaling, or LVDS, also known as TIA/EIA-644, is a technical standard that specifies electrical characteristics of a differential, serial signaling standard. LVDS operates at low power and can run at very high speeds using inexpensive twisted-pair copper cables. A very important feature of this interface is that it is differential, which means it is immune to interference. Video signal data can be sent really fast and it will not be broken down by any noise, or interference.
Embedded DisplayPort (commonly referred to as eDP) is based on the VESA DisplayPort Standard. The EDP interface is a fully digital interface based on the DisplayPort architecture and protocol. It offers much higher signal bandwidth and allows for high refresh rates, color depths and ultra-high screen resolutions like UHD / 4K and higher. eDP is a native interface, do not need anything extra to connect a POS display to the motherboard, so it can drive the cost down.
