For smart POS payment terminals with built-in fans, fluctuations in fan noise are usually normal and not a cause for concern. However, if the fan suddenly becomes significantly louder than usual, it may indicate a potential problem.
When a smart POS payment terminal handles multitasking, continuous high-volume transactions, or multiple connected peripherals, the CPU temperature rises. In response, the fan speeds up to enhance cooling and prevent hardware damage. In these cases, increased fan noise is a normal protective mechanism.
However, if the fan noise remains consistently loud and does not adjust its speed automatically, it could signal a hardware problem. Here are a few possible causes:
1. One of the common reasons for excessive fan noise is the accumulation of dust and debris inside the smart POS payment terminal. Dust can clog the fan blades and obstruct airflow, forcing the fan to work harder and generate more noise.
2. If the fan itself is worn out or malfunctioning, it may produce abnormal noise. It could be due to worn-out bearings, insufficient lubrication, or damaged fan blades.
3. In some cases, incorrect fan speed settings in the BIOS or system software can cause the fan to run at unnecessarily high speeds, leading to excessive noise.
If encounter the fan is louder than usual, there’s no need to worry. Sunany recommends the following solutions:
1. During use, be careful not to block the air inlet and outlet with foreign objects. Also, check whether the fan is working properly regularly. Clean the internal components of the smart POS payment terminal (including the fan) to remove any dust. If possible, use a cooling pad to improve heat dissipation and reduce the fan’s workload.
2. Pay attention to the service life of the smart POS payment terminal and the working status of the internal fan. If there are signs of damage, consider replacing it in time.
3. Turn on the automatic fan adjustment function provided by the BIOS or hardware monitoring software. After turning on the automatic fan adjustment, we can appropriately close some unnecessary programs to avoid long-term high-load operations.
